Jeff Galloway training program teaches how to run half or full marathon

April 16, 2019 Newsroom, Springfield

Running a full or half marathon is a challenge – but Jeff Galloway, a former Olympian and fitness expert, can help.

Beginning in April, CoxHealth will lead runners through the Galloway's training program, which is perfect for anyone wishing to complete their first marathon, or experienced runners who simply want to move faster.

The results speak for themselves: Participants in Galloway’s program see a 98 percent completion rate during long-distance events, and a reduction in their number of training injuries.

It all starts on April 24 at 6 p.m., when Galloway will speak in Springfield. After that, participants will meet at Sequiota Park every Saturday at 7:30 a.m. through October. They’ll be introduced to the Galloway technique as the program progresses, which involves a special combination of running and walking.

While the fundamental purpose is to simply become a better runner, another goal is to prepare for the Bass Pro Shops Fitness Series half and full marathon, which in 2019 is scheduled for Nov. 3.

In addition to the training, participants receive a Galloway shirt and e-book; discounts to Galloway running retreats and schools; a discount on a CoxHealth Fitness Centers membership; educational support from CoxHealth’s Total Performance Running team; a once-a-week, on-site coach with support for every mile run; water on the course; and discounts on both national and local races.

The course costs $109 for CoxHealth employees and members of CoxHealth Fitness Centers, and $134 for the general public. There are reduced rates for individuals who have previously completed the program and wish to do it again.
