To meet the needs of a growing oncology patient population, CoxHealth recently opened the Sue Dalton Chemotherapy Infusion Center.

The new space, located on the second floor of the Hulston Cancer Center, provides a welcoming, modern facility with patient care areas designed for comfort, convenience and accommodation for a support person to share the space with the patient. The previous center had 29 treatment chairs, the new center has 44, as well as five private suites for patients requiring isolation due to highly immunocompromised conditions.

“Over the years, our oncology service line has grown, with additional medical oncologists now on staff referring more patients to the center,” says Oncology Manager Autumn Bragg. “We outgrew the former center and needed to grow to continue the excellence in care provided each day.”

Nurse Manager Michelle Jackson says the new outpatient oncology space is a testament to CoxHealth’s commitment to creating a healing environment that supports patients as they receive clinical care. As a part of the environment, patients and visitors will have access to a rooftop garden that is a part of the center’s space. “We know it will also bring a sense of comfort as they are receiving care being able to look out on it as well.” she says.

Jackson says her team sees an average of 60-75 patients a day. “It is one of the most difficult things they (patients) are ever going to go through. Giving them the support and care they need and treating them like our family is what we do. Patients are typically apprehensive when they visit, and while our staff are experts at putting them at ease, I feel like this updated space will strongly contribute to helping our patients feel calmer and more relaxed."

Thanks to a gift from Andy and Sue Dalton, for whom the center is named, along with many other generous donors, CoxHealth is able to provide this expanded space for patients.
