Our virtual care solution

As part of our efforts to recruit and retain the highest caliber nurses at CoxHealth, we’ve added a virtual care team for ICU and Med Surg patients. This allows experienced nurses to supplement their conventional bedside nursing shifts with telehealth nursing, offering opportunities for physical relief, reduced workloads, and increased flexibility through this hybrid work model. The virtual care team doesn’t change nurse-to-patient ratios or bedside care, but adds a layer of support for patients and an opportunity for seasoned RNs to mentor new nurses on the floor.

As a virtual care team nurse, you work from a designated base at Cox Medical Center South, rotating between virtual and bedside shifts. During virtual care, you provide guidance to staff and communicate with patients through video technology, helping to improve response times, patient safety, and satisfaction. A shift typically includes monitoring patient vital signs and critical alerts; assisting with admissions, discharges, and scheduling follow-up care; and updating patient medical records while participating in physician rounding.

Supporting bedside staff as a member of our virtual care team provides invaluable benefit to the care of our most vulnerable patient population—your years of experience and knowledge.
