Overview of Unit/Department
The CARE Department is a collection of highly skilled and experienced nurses who enjoy assisting healthcare teams throughout the hospital: broadening their care repertoire while serving as a crucial staffing and leadership resource within their area of specialty. Compared to the Internal Agency float pool, our nurses have the benefit of limited weekend and holiday requirements and are excellent communicators, critical thinkers, and advocates both for their patients and for process improvements within the system. We encourage formal and informal leadership development through clinical skill and certification advancements, precepting and mentoring, community service, clinical ladders, participation in process improvement initiatives, as well as charge nurse and virtual nurse opportunities in Critical Care or Medical Surgical for local CARE nurses.

CoxHealth is Missouri’s first hospital system accredited by DNV Healthcare for quality and patient safety. All six hospitals, as well as our outpatient centers and provider-based clinics, hold this national distinction from DNV’s accreditation program, the National Integrated Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations. The hospital is also the only facility in the region to receive the ANCC Magnet designation, which recognizes excellence in nursing. We are the only local health system named six times to U.S. News & World Report’s Best Regional Hospitals list, and we are recognized by CareChex as among the Top 10 percent of U.S. hospitals for medical excellence and patient safety in overall medical care.
