Job Summary

  • Serves in a consultative and collaborative role with the physician and other members of the palliative care and case management teams to deliver palliative care and related services to patients and families. Guide performance improvement and department development via strategic planning and by providing education to healthcare staff, patients, and their families about available resources, pain/symptom management in advanced disease and end of life care.
Job Requirements
  • Education
    • Required: Graduate of an approved nursing program
    • Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing
  • Experience
    • Required: Minimum one (1) year experience as professional nurse within the last three (3) years.
    • Preferred: 2 years in hospice or palliative care.
  • Skills
    • Strong critical thinking skills; demonstrates competent clinical judgement through use of the nursing process to assess physical, emotional, psychosocial and spiritual needs of the patient and their family.
    • Good understanding of advanced illness conditions including course of illness, prognostic factors, common complications, symptoms and palliative care approach.
    • General understanding of Medicare Hospice Benefit, hospice philosophy, services and criteria for admission.
    • Clinical competency in palliative care and end of life care.
    • Assists in development of clinical practice guidelines in support of quality palliative care.
  • Licensure/Certification/Registration
    • Required: MO RN license
