October 29, 2021 Newsroom

Robert Fulp has been named chairman of the CoxHealth Board of Directors.

“We are thrilled to have Rob as the next chair of the CoxHealth Board of Directors,” says Steve Edwards, president and CEO of CoxHealth. “Rob has been part of our board for many years, and has contributed a great deal through his leadership and service, both at CoxHealth and in our community. His role as chair will amplify his great skill and leadership through our organization.”

Fulp, a retired community bank chairman, president and CEO, was installed as chair at the board of directors' annual meeting on Oct. 28. A member of the board since 2007, Fulp succeeds Chuck Chalender, who served as chair since October 2020.

“Chuck’s ties with CoxHealth are extremely strong, as he is the third generation of his family to have held this role,” says Edwards. “We appreciate his service, especially over this past year, which has been an unprecedented time for our health system and community.”

In addition to Fulp, board officers for the 2021-2022 year include Hal Higdon, PhD, 1st Vice Chair; Sally Hargis, 2nd Vice Chair; and Jefferson Tynes, 3rd Vice Chair.

In addition to leadership shifts, Dr. Patricia Dix, Dr. James Gibson, Jan Harris, Bob McDowell and Dr. David Zolfaghari moved off of the board. New board members Bob Cox, Dr. Nana Gaisie, Dr. Daphne LeMon and Dr. Susan Graves were also welcomed as part of the transition.

“Our board members are crucial to the success of CoxHealth and its impact,” says Edwards. “I especially thank the individuals who have spent so many years in service through the board. Their efforts have been greatly appreciated, both for our current efforts, but also for the future by making decisions to position CoxHealth in a way to make a difference for years to come.”
