Physician joins CoxHealth Center Willard

June 14, 2018 Newsroom, Springfield

In a way, Dr. Corbin VanDeWege grew up to have a career that he’s always wanted. After all, as a child, Dr. VanDeWege wanted to study bugs.

Of course, as a physician he’s not actually studying the critters crawling on the ground – but he is serving, supporting and treating patients with “bugs,” illnesses and other medical conditions. He’s currently seeing even more patients these days, after starting at CoxHealth Center Willard several weeks ago.

“I love the opportunity to get to know people and help them out when they’re in need,” says Dr. VanDeWege. “Family Medicine is especially rewarding, because it’s a chance to connect with all members of a family. It’s wonderful to be able to serve patients throughout their lives.”

Dr. VanDeWege isn’t from the area, but has grown to make it his home since relocating to Springfield in 2006. After graduating from medical school at Indiana University School of Medicine, he moved to Springfield to complete his medical training through the Cox Family Medicine Residency program. The years in Springfield were enough to convince him to remain in the area.

“We didn’t play to stay, but fell in love with the region and decided to make it our home,” says Dr. VanDeWege.

By “we,” Dr. VanDeWege speaks of his wife, Julie, and a family that now includes four children. When he’s not working, Dr. VanDeWege enjoys spending time with his family, fishing, and serving the community through opportunities at his church.
