Mackenzie Lay is a familiar face to many families in the area. As a labor and delivery nurse at Cox Monett, where she has spent the last six years, Lay has been a part of helping hundreds of moms bring the amazing miracle of new life into the world.

After recently receiving her certification as a nurse practitioner, Lay now has a new way of serving local families as a primary care provider at CoxHealth Center Cassville.

“Rural health care has a special place in my heart because it allows me to build long-lasting relationships with my patients,” says Lay. “Potentially, these are the same families that I already have a meaningful connection with from my years of working in a hospital setting, which makes it even better.”

Lay, who is a graduate of Monett High School, earned a master’s degree in Nursing from Cox College in May.

“It was my goal after graduation to stay with CoxHealth because of the way they take care of their employees and give back to their community,” she says. “I enjoy being part of the CoxHealth mission.”

In her spare time, Lay loves spending time with her family, being outdoors, attending country music concerts, and is always on the lookout for the next big adventure. She is the mom to a sweet 3-year-old little boy named Maddix.

“It was an honor to be a part of a major life event for so many families over the years,” she says. “I’m passionate about caring for others, and I’m looking forward to continuing to be a part of my patients’ stories for years to come.”
