CoxHealth RN to BSN Tuition Assistance program helping nurses advance their education

January 7, 2025 Newsroom, Monett

Registered nurse Courtney Pfitzner has always had a passion for caring for others.

Courtney, who has eight years of nursing experience, is currently the assistant nurse manager for the Cox Monett ER, Visiting Physicians Clinic, and the Cardiac Rehabilitation program. She recently achieved her dream of advancing her education by graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree.

“When I decided to return to school, I was pregnant with my second child,” Courtney says. “I was concerned about the financial implications of going back to school since we were spending much of our money preparing for our new addition to the family.”

To alleviate the financial burden, Courtney chose to take advantage of the CoxHealth RN to BSN Tuition Assistance program.

“The team I worked with was great,” she says. “The process for submitting documents was smooth, and they even provided encouragement along the way.”

While in high school, Courtney completed the Health Occupations program at the Scott Regional Technology Center in Monett.

“This wonderful program taught me about the health care field and what it means to care for patients,” she says. “From that point on, I was hooked; I knew I wanted to care for people for the rest of my life.”

After attending community college to obtain a licensed practical nursing degree, Courtney pursued her goal of becoming a registered nurse and eventually found her home at Cox Monett.

“I feel very fortunate to be in a leadership role and to work alongside my wonderful Cox Monett family,” she says.

Courtney would like to offer some advice for nurses considering furthering their education.

“Go for it!” she says. “Take the time to research different programs and find the one that suits you best.”

As a full-time employee, wife, and mother, Courtney says she found a program that allowed her to progress at her own pace.

“You won’t regret this decision,” she says. “It’s perfectly fine if it takes two semesters or four—just give yourself the grace and patience to see it through.”
