CoxHealth Hyperbaric Medicine and Wound Care Center earns top reaccreditation

March 8, 2019 Newsroom, Springfield

The CoxHealth Hyperbaric Medicine and Wound Care Center in Springfield has received a Level 1, four-year reaccreditation with distinction from the Undersea & Hyperbaric Medical Society (UHMS).

The clinic is the only UHMS-accredited facility in Springfield, and the only facility in Missouri that has achieved accreditation with distinction – the highest level of UHMS accreditation.

“We are so proud of this distinction and what it means for the patients we serve,” says Dr. Larry Chase, physician with the center. “A variety of factors contribute to the distinction, but includes being available for emergencies 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and 365 days a year. Whenever people need us, we are ready to care for them.”

Hyperbaric treatment involves patients breathing pure oxygen – often at much higher levels than is typical – in a pressurized chamber. The therapy increases the amount of oxygen that patients’ blood can carry, which helps promote healing, and addresses conditions which might require emergency treatment. Examples include carbon-monoxide poisoning, life-threatening infections and even scuba-diving injuries.
