Cox Monett launches ‘Meds-to-beds’ program

September 17, 2019 Monett, Springfield

A new service for patients hospitalized at Cox Monett launched last week. “Meds-to-beds” is a free and convenient bedside delivery service which allows the pharmacist and pharmacy technician to personally deliver the prescription to the patient prior to discharge.

“This is a program we have been working to bring to our patients in Monett for a few months now,” said Scott Kaufman, pharmacy manager at Cox Monett. “The meds-to-beds program has received rave reviews and has quickly become a best practice at CoxHealth in Springfield and Branson, so we knew we wanted to bring it here—it’s something my department could do to contribute to the five star care being delivered in our rural hospital.”

The bedside delivery service program is aimed at saving the patient time so they do not have to make unnecessary stops on the way home from the hospital. It also helps to ensure that patients have all of their medications prior to transitioning back to their home.

According to Kaufman, another goal of the program is adherence to medications and patient safety. “We are sitting down with our patients and taking the time to address medication-related questions,” he said. “We also understand that patients who take their medications as prescribed have better outcomes and fewer readmissions.”

Patients will have the opportunity to enroll in the meds-to-beds program upon admission to the hospital.

“Future expansion of the pharmacy and its services are things our patients told us they wanted,” said Darren Bass, president of Cox Monett. “The hospital’s pharmacy, currently located on the second floor, is a little out of the way for patients, so this will help them get medications more easily before leaving the hospital.”
