Cox Monett: DAISY Award presented to Elena Silvers
Registered nurse recognized for going above and beyond for her patient who was feeling down
The DAISY Award program recognizes nurses who provide compassionate care that exemplifies the kind of nurse patients, families, and CoxHealth professionals recognize as an outstanding role model.
Elena Silvers, RN, consistently goes above and beyond for her patients. Many times, it's those small, thoughtful acts of kindness that make such a big difference. In this case, a comforting meal helped to heal her patient's heart and lift his spirits.
𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻:
“We recently had a patient who had been a little down due to his stay in the hospital. The nursing staff struck up a conversation with him about Mexican food. He was all smiles and was open to a change. Elena took that thought and away she went.
That night, Elena made some authentic Mexican food for her family. The next day, on her day off, she packed some leftovers and drove to the hospital, recalling her promise to the patient.
Once she arrived, she entered the patient’s room with the food. Elena told him that she was fulfilling her promise to him by bringing him some delicious enchiladas.
As she opened the container with food, the patient smiled, and he kept smiling for hours. You could just see the joy in his eyes! She brightened up his difficult hospital stay with a home-cooked meal.
Elena performs kind gestures like this one on a regular basis. If it is within her power to do something for her patients that will make their hospital stay better, she never thinks twice about it. Her compassion and caring nature are evident when she's at work or at home – it's simply a part of who she is.”
