Bone Density Clinic first in Missouri to receive accreditation

June 4, 2020 Newsroom

CoxHealth’s Bone Density Clinic has been accredited from the International Society of Bone Densitometry (ISCD). The clinic, operated in connection with The Women’s Center at CoxHealth, is the first bone density clinic in Missouri and one of only 42 sites in the United States that has achieved this accreditation.

“As an accredited clinic, we are held to the highest standards in bone mineral density testing,” says Beth Polivka, administrative director of Nursing at CoxHealth. “We congratulate our team for being the first clinic in Missouri to achieve this accreditation, and are proud and excited how their hard work has paid off for our patients.”

Bone Densitometry assesses musculoskeletal health, and is the standard testing method for evaluating conditions such as osteoporosis, skeletal fractures, and other conditions due to bone loss. To achieve accreditation, facilities must meet or exceed the standards set forth in the areas of personnel, equipment quality assurance and quality control of precision testing, scan analysis, and scan interpretation and reporting.

Accreditation requires having a technician who is certified with the International Society of Bone Densitometry. This primary technician assures that everyone who does bone density testing is trained and continually educated on the latest best practice and research. The designation also requires that ISCD-providers interpret the diagnostic tests and follow standardized guidelines.
