Neuropsychology

CoxHealth can see you for neuropsychological evaluation when you, your family or your health care provider has concerns about your cognitive (thinking) abilities for any reason. Common reasons include memory loss with advanced age, problems concentrating after a head injury or an associated neurological condition. A neuropsychological assessment typically involves an interview with a neuropsychologist and completing tests for brain dysfunction with a technician. Assessing academic skill development and/or emotional functioning may also be part of the evaluation. With results from these measures, the neuropsychologist can draw conclusions about your functioning, what may be contributing to your problems and what sort of treatment would be appropriate and helpful.

Please note it isn't necessary for you to have a psychological disorder to be referred for a neuropsychological evaluation. In fact, the majority of our referrals are simply related to concerns about cognitive (thinking) decline.
